Henchies have gotten popular due to the increasing noobs and decreasing population as the game progresses. And here is the problem: when you are with henchies, charming an animal is impossible because they kill it before you finish.

all animals except the pheonix can be reached with no party for some chars. But not all professions will be cabable of running to there "new" pet.. However, I definatly agree with you.

If you're charming a pet, obviously you're a ranger. Therefore you have some sort of a speed buff. Use it to leave the hench behind.

Pull another mob to within charming range of the animal.

Start to charm the animal.

Send your henchies to attack another target from the group you just pulled.

While these are all good ideas to get around it, I think the OP was hoping ANet would actually fix up the AI of the henchies. Really, it doesn't take much code.

if master is using Charm Animal on target
don't attack it;
else
go nuts;

The henchies are a constant work in progress for ANet.

Then they should also implement that when you've actually charmed it, the henchies start /cheer and /dance.
